Fatema Tasmia is a PhD candidate at the Department of History of Art and Architecture, Boston University. She is an Assistant Professor (now on study leave) in the Department of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Her PhD research focuses on the History of Tropical Modernism in Post-colonial South Asia. She completed her Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from BUET with a thesis focused on the Modern Architectural History of Bangladesh. She has been awarded the prestigious 'Vrooman Memorial Postgraduate Scholarship Award'. Her research interest focuses on Tropical Modernism in Global South/South Asia, Critical Regionalism and Modern Architectural History. She is currently working as a core member of the Heritage Education, Awareness & Research Committee of 24th EC of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). She has also worked on the proposal script of Contemporary Heritage Sites of Bangladesh for Inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
