In November 2023, South Asian Urban Climates organized a book panel for Maan Barua’s book Lively Cities: Reconfiguring Urban Ecology (University of Minnesota Press, 2023) in dialogue with Awadhendra Sharan, Aseela Haque, and Waqas Butt.

Maan Barua is an environmental and urban geographer whose research focuses on the economies, ontologies and politics of the living and material world. He is a University Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Cambridge.

Waqas Butt is an Associate Professor in Anthropology at the University of Toronto, and the author of Life Beyond Waste: Work and Infrastructure in Urban Pakistan (Stanford University Press, 2023).

Aseela Haque is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the Department of Human Geography at Free University Berlin in Germany.

Awadhendra Sharan is the director of the Center for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi and the author of In the City, Out of Place: Nuisance, Pollution and Dwelling in Delhi, c. 1850-2000 (Oxford University Press, 2014) and Dust and Smoke: Air Pollution and Colonial Urbanism, India, c.1860-c.1940 (Orient BlackSwan in 2020).
